Let me upgrade you!

Let me upgrade you!

At the beginning of the year I decided that I wanted to devote time to upgrading some things around my new home.  Creating a space that promotes a lifestyle to be productive is very important to me.

I need a place that does not stifle my creativity, and so I decided I needed some help.

I’m going to be honest, I really don’t have a designing bone in my body.  When you are weak in one area, it is crucial that you enlist the help of someone that is strong in the areas where you are lacking.  I was on Facebook and saw that one of my favorite interior designers would be in the area for consultations.

My appointment was scheduled for the following Wednesday with Glasshouse Interior, and I was on cloud nine for the days leading up to the meeting.  Guess what?!

An hour before the appointment my electricity was OFF.  Yes, you read that correctly.  The winds were very strong that day, and ya girl was without power.  The first thing I thought was I know I paid my bill, what in the heck is really going on?!

Marissa, of Glasshouse Interior was prompt, and ready to assess my space.  Her level of expertise blew my mind.  I was anxious before meeting with her, but she made me so relaxed in my own home.  She provided an abundance of information during our time together.  By the end of the session I was inspired.  Overall, I was driven to do more with my space, and realized the potential that the space holds.

I spent the entire weekend in the hardware store(s) playing with colors for my living room and home office.  I strolled around the store looking at everything for the home.  I tried my best not to be discouraged through this process because it seemed as though everyone was sure of what they wanted.  Then I was reminded that it’s one space at a time, and don’t judge a person by where they are.  This was a great reminder for me. Don’t try to do everything at one time.  Choose one task, KILL it, and move on.

Stop…Breathe…Repeat I know that the headquarters will come together in due time.  There’s no need to rush anything that lesson goes beyond the remodeling of my place.  I realized in order to take it up a notch I have to upgrade my place too.

I’ll be sure to post before, and after pics too! Until then please continue to support, and love on ya girl, I’m going to need it!

What happens when women support women?

What happens when women support women?

Fall has arrived and that means that I can rock all of the wool hats that I scored during the spring and summer for the LOW…LOW!

Do you feel me? Cute boots, dark hue manis, and fly hats season has arrived.  I don’t want to focus on that today though.

I knew that I would be attending a private event in the “windy city” on Saturday so I decided to look for other events to occupy the entire day.  My illustrator, the fab Daveia Odoi of Dynasmiles posted about a black owned business directory in her Facebook group.  I decided to check out the website, and BOOM!  I saw an event just outside of Chicago.  It was an opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs, and slay the scene.

My sister and I  arrived at the venue; super cute clothing boutique located in Evanston, IL, “Eye Boutique Kloset.”  The boutique was full of fellow entrepreneurs, prizes, a fashion show, and networking.  The perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon, especially since I walked away with two great prizes.  Artwork from KLT Art by Kendro (owner of the website where I saw the event)

The next venue was a private event for a soft opening for Glasshouse Interior – Home Decor Line.  Champagne, cupcakes, good vibes, and of course great pieces for your home.  I’m so happy I was able to experience all of this buttery goodness on a beautiful autumn day.

So what happens when #womensupportwomen

I was amongst all of these amazing women and witnessed greatness happening before my very own eyes.  I met a young lady that walked away from her full time job to launch her own cupcake/bakery business, and this sista was 21 years old.  She decided to take that leap of faith, and go for it.

The interior design company reminded me of the importance of a solid foundation. When you have love, support, a dream, and above all FAITH as your formula you are absolutely UNSTOPPABLE.  I can’t explain to you how much these events motivated me.

I’ve wrestled with the thought of launching an event to kickoff the challenge that I started last year.  #SteeleThankful Challenge (if you are not aware of the challenge go back to my posts in November 2015 and check those out).  I know that it won’t be easy, but my God I know it will be worth it.  It’s needed with everything that is going on.

Partnerships are important so I’m looking to partner with some  brands to bring events to my area.

What do you think?  Let’s get together, support each other, love on one another, and tell the world what we’re #SteeleThankful for?

Let’s show the world that we can support one another!

Spring Forward: The Monday After…

Spring Forward: The Monday After…

The first Monday after “Spring Forward Sunday,” and we must push through.  **yawn**

I am currently in search of imaginary coffee, and attempting to adjust to the time change.

Similar to the time change I realized that I must “spring forward” with some things.  A shift that I must accept, and ride the wave.

For the past couple of months, you have been apart of this journey of me launching the first book in the Adventures of Alleykats series.  You have witnessed the relaunch of the grief platform, (Final 48 Project) that I’ve been working on for a couple of years now, and travel the country doing Historical Tours with R.J.

Every Monday, I’ve provided stories of encouragement in hopes that you would tap into what motivates and inspires me to keep going.  A snapshot into my life has been extremely challenging but therapeutic.  It’s because of people like you that I have been committed to writing a story on the site 2-3 times a week, and I thank you.

I realized that the mission has changed, and greater things are to come.  A new website will hopefully be completed by Summer 2016, and I am excited.  More resources, and content that will inspire, educate, and uplift beyond my community.  I’m talking a global movement.

I wanted to spend this Monday thanking you, and not to dread the time change.  Sometimes in our lives things must be adjusted or changed in order to grow.  I’m #SteeleThankful, and looking forward to the next phase of this journey.

Spring is right around the corner. 🙂
